Local independent taxi drivers are being let down by Elmbridge Borough Council.
I recently met with a group of local taxi drivers to discuss what they were experiencing as independent traders:
- Operating fees that are 38% higher than the next most-expensive borough in the country, and a whopping 134% higher than the Surrey average
- Months of delays when processing license applications stopping drivers from working
- The de-licensing of diesel vehicles, punishing drivers for the car they rely on for a living
- No taxi ranks in Hampton Court Station or Cobham, and tight space elsewhere
Taxi drivers have been unable to get any facetime with the council, and response times stretch into months. Therefore, I have written to Elmbridge Borough Council on their behalf to ask for these issues to be addressed as a matter of priority.
Are you a local taxi driver experiencing similar issues? Let me know on [email protected] so I can speak with the council and get some answers on your behalf.
