Thank you to the thousands who have responded to my local budget survey. I met with Jeremy Hunt to discuss the replies and make sure your views are fed into the budget which is still being finalised. The main themes I shared were:
- support for tax cuts for lower & middle earners (but tackling inflation remains the top priority);
- strong support for defence spending & Ukraine;
- keep fuel duty down;
- keep protecting public services, especially education & the NHS; and
- a commitment to increasing inheritance tax thresholds in the future (recognising the public finances still need to recover from pandemic spending, furlough, & energy bill support etc).
