One of the stories in my recent newsletter (hopefully you got it in the post!) was a plan to stop Sadiq Khans' new daily £12.50 ULEZ tax being expanded to the Surrey border (e.g. crossing Hampton Court bridge). The people it will effect most are those who can't afford a new car and local businesses.
ULEZ hasn't reduced pollution (something we all agree needs to happen!) since being implemented, and I don't think those on low incomes who can't afford a new car should be hit while the wealthier who have an electric car or a new car avoid the ULEZ tax entirely. The Mayor should be investing in buses and public transport, not new taxes.
Sadly the Liberal Democrats and Labour voted for it start at the end of this year, so this is going to be a hard fight, but Conservative Councils in Surrey (led by Cllr Tim Oliver) are taking Sadiq Khan to court via a judicial review to stop it. Find out more here.
Signing the petition here will help us show the strength of feeling locally and put pressure on Sadiq to change direction.
