We're really lucky to have the Thames, Mole, and Ember rivers but the need to educate swimmers, paddle boarders, and other river users is clear. It's why the conservative group on Elmbridge Borough Council made the Council launch a new water safety plan last year after a young boy tragically lost their life on the Thames. This plan is a good start, but so much more needs to be done - including free swimming safety lessons for local children at Council pools like the Xcel in Walton or Hurst Pool.
In good news, Surrey County Council and the River Thames Society have funded a new boat for the amazing volunteers at the Kingston Maritime Volunteer Service who are extending their services to Molesey Lock, Thames Ditton, Walton, and throughout Elmbridge.
It was great to meet the volunteers and have a ride out on the new boat with Cllr Steve Box who backed the funding bid. If you're interested in supporting or volunteering yourself, you can get in touch here.
