It was great to join Rhys Stephenson on BBC Morning Live to talk all things apprenticeships and the choices young people and adults are making when thinking about their training.
Apprenticeships have become a brilliant choice over the last ten years, with 4,830 new apprenticeship starts in Esher and Walton constituency since 2010.
However, with about 400,000 or so people across the country interested in being an apprentice on UCAS, and only about 7,000 apprenticeships advertised at a given time, the gap between demand and supply is massive.
I think the next step in the government’s skill reforms should be establishing generous tax incentives for employers to invest more than just the Apprenticeship Levy, including through new “Skills Tax Credits”, similar to incentives available for capital and research investment.
